Well GIMP is open source, which means it is FREE and you can download it from the Download link I have provided in the Download section near the end of the right sidebar. I admit it was a little difficult familiarizing myself with GIMP, but that is the case with anything new, it needs time to get familiar with something new. And since then, I haven't looked back to Photoshop ever again.

So I started trying out Linux based image editing software and I found GIMP. Well, you can guess the frustration I felt when I realized that I couldn't use PSD on my machine anymore and I did not want to use it via Wine Windows compatibility layer. I used Photoshop CS5 previously but recently I moved to a Linux system just because I love open source. I have been working on GIMP for a few months and I have fallen in love with it. This blog is for online GIMP tutorials for beginners and advanced users alike. However everyone is entitled to their own views and perspective on this. Personally, I feel it is the best among all the other image editing software. It is one of the best free image editing software available for free. GIMP is the free GNU image manipulation software. Though it took a little more than just a font to make it like that, however once you start on GIMP tutorials, the fun never ends. You can download more fonts and install them from DaFont. Installing GPS will give you a larger variety of brushes and fonts to work with. The link to downloading GPS is /p/gps- gimp- paint- studio/. Let me tell you a secret in this GIMP tutorial, as soon as you download and install GIMP, go and download GIMP Paint Studio (GPS) along with it and install it. I have kept mine such that the main working panel takes up the maximum space and the other two panels have just enough width to show all their options.

The best thing about all of these are that you can re-size any of these panels to fit your screen. Over here all the various layers show up as you continue your work. The blue layer is your layers, channels and paths box. The green portion is your toolbox and it contains all the tools like the "blend tool", "path tool", etc. The red portion of the GIMP is you main work area where you will see all the magic happening. I have marked different portions of the scree in different colors and labelled them for your ease. After firing up the GIMP, you will see a layout like the screen shot I have pasted here. This the a tutorial where you will familiarize yourself with the GIMP.
